The Indonesian Olympic Committee President, Raja Sapta Oktohari, emphasized the importance of understanding world sports bureaucracy for the national sport stakeholders during the national sports seminar in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Okto, who spoke attended the seminar online, took a recent incident in the All England badminton tournament as an example.

The Indonesian team was forced to withdraw from the event after the National Health Service sent an email to 20 team members to quarantine themselves for ten days due to close contact with a Covid-19 positive person during the flight to Birmingham.

"If we're not taking a precaution, there would be lots of people threw their anger to the English government, saying there's discrimination to the Indonesian team, the local government didn't treat our team correctly. But, if we understand and see how things work, we can take proper action as we know the bureaucracy," Okto said.

With intensive lobby from the foreign affairs minister, sports and youth minister and the Asian Badminton Confederation President, Anton Subowo, the Indonesian team managed to leave Birmingham earlier than expected.

Okto also pushed the national sports federations to take a more active role in the continental and international federations by putting their representative.
During the seminar, Executive Committee member Rafiq Hakim Radinal, represented the Indonesian Olympic Committee and received a souvenir from the sportswriter association.
